A GREENOCK man is set to stand trial before a jury charged with assaulting a woman to the danger of her life.

Lee Doherty seized the alleged victim by her hair and repeatedly struck her head against a wall, prosecutors say.

Doherty, 29, is said to have carried out a domestically aggravated attack against the woman at his second floor flat on East Hamilton Street.

It is alleged that he caused her to fall to the floor before 'forcibly' applying his foot to her body and striking her head against a radiator, which is said to have resulted in her losing consciousness.

Doherty is further accused of pursuing the woman, seizing her by her clothing and dragging her during the alleged attack on October 1, 2021.

The Crown says he assaulted the woman after forcing entry to a room whilst shouting, swearing and acting in an aggressive manner.

He is also charged with failing without reasonable excused to co-operate with a preliminary breath test whilst under reasonable suspicion by police of later driving when unfit to do so through drink or drugs.

Doherty is said to have committed this alleged offence after police stopped a Mercedes AMG Sport car at Ratho Street — also on October 1 2021.

Another charge alleges that he failed to give information regarding the identity of the driver of the car at 3.11am that day.

Doherty has pleaded not guilty to all of the indictment charges against him through lawyer Aidan Gallagher at the sheriff court.

A trial before a sheriff and jury is due to begin on May 9.
