IT was lights, camera, action as filming for a new Bollywood blockbuster transformed the heart of Greenock.

Acclaimed film producer Vashu Bhagnani brought a huge crew to the town to shoot scenes for his new blockbuster 'Big Brother, Little Brother'.

The globally known director, who has previously shot popular Bollywood film Bell Bottom in the town centre, says he was 'delighted' to return and put Greenock back in the frame.

Vashu told the Tele: "Filming in Inverclyde is brilliant, we enjoy coming here and always feel welcomed by the local people.

"Our aim is to attract tourism and more business to Inverclyde - if people watch and see it on the scenes, they will want to visit.

"We have been very lucky to have been supported by Inverclyde Council and local company PG Paper.

"I'd like to say thank-you to them and the wider area for being so accommodating."

Earlier in the week Custom House Quay was turned into an outdoor market before dramatic stunt scenes were filmed including a high speed chase over the cobblestones, featuring an overturning police car.

More action packed scenes were shot yesterday on Clarence, Hood, Haig and Roslin streets from 5am until 7pm.

Vashu, who is living in London after moving from Mumbai, has had global success with films such as Coolie No. 1 and Om Jai Jagadish.

PG Paper owner Poonam Gupta OBE, who was instrumental in helping to facilitate filming locally, says she hopes it will have the spin-off of bringing more business to the area.

The entrepreneur and philanthropist said: "It has been fantastic to welcome Vashu and his team back to the area.

"Inverclyde Council have been excellent in ensuring there has been maximum shooting potential with minimal disruption.

"We want people to be excited about these opportunities, it is good for the town and will hopefully be the start of bringing more opportunities to the area."
