A PORT Glasgow school has received a special award from children's charity UNICEF.

St Michael's Primary has been given the organisation's silver Rights Respecting School certificate.

Staff and pupils have worked hard in recent months to ensure everyone at the school is aware of their rights, and demonstrated their understanding to UNICEF representative at a recent online meeting.

Teacher Michelle Harkins told the Tele the pupils were a credit to the school.

She added: "It's a great way to widen their knowledge about their rights and what they need to be aware of.

"I'm really proud of the children, they've represented St Michael's really well and I think the feedback we've had from UNICEF has shown that.

"We're now working towards our gold award, and hopefully we can get that in the near future."
