A GREENOCK woman is embracing the ancient art of foraging - to teach local people what they can source from the land to eat.

Sharon Kerrigan, who owns her own business 'Wander & Wonder', has been running classes for residents to learn how to find food from nature.

The 30-year-old says she grew up foraging and that her 'obsession spiralled'.

It had led her to offering sessions about sourcing plants such as wild garlic and mushrooms, which have proved popular.

As well as running classes at Daff Glen in Inverkip, Sharon has also been offering coastal walks to explore shellfish and plants.

She hopes that by educating people about the art of foraging people will reconnect with the land and also save money in doing so.

Sharon told the Tele: "I think I was known as the 'crazy mushroom lady', but it is amazing how much interest there is now in foraging.

"I launched classes about six months ago and the idea is I show people what is safe, how to source things from the land and then use them in everyday life.

"When I do classes at Daff Glen we end up at Inverkip Hub nearby, where I show participants all of the ways they could use things like wild garlic in cooking.

"I really enjoy what I do and it is great to see that there is so much interest in it."

Sharon, who works in social care, says foraging has also had a positive spin-off for her personally and has helped to keep her fit and healthy.

She said: "I struggled with getting out and keeping active, but with foraging it gives you something to focus on.

"You can find yourself walking for hours, it is so good for your mental and physical health.

"I've had people of all ages join foraging workshops, it is something for everyone.

"I'm really looking forward to being able to offer more now the good weather is coming in."
