SCHOOLGIRLS from across Inverclyde competed in their first major netball tournament since the pandemic.

There was excitement in the air as all the primary schools in the area came together on the courts at Greenock Sports Centre.

A total of 150 players, from Port Glasgow to Wemyss Bay, lined up for the finals of the Active Schools competition.

Active Schools co-ordinator Claire Munn was thrilled to see everyone in action once again after a gap of almost four years.

Claire said: “This is the first time we have been able to hold this competition since 2019 and it is great to see everyone.

“The standard was high and all the girls had a great time.”

Moorfoot Primary teacher and netball coach Jennifer Canning was also delighted to be back and she praised Claire for all her hard work setting it up.

She said: “Claire does so much to help the girls play netball.

“It is great to see all the girls here and enjoying the competition.”

Moorfoot Primary’s Maya Inglis, Annabel Mowat, Mirrin Fay and Lily Hendry were all excited to be playing.

Maya said: “I love playing netball, it is great fun and we couldn’t wait to get back to a tournament again.”

It was a busy day of action with teams coming on and off the courts and by the end Wemyss Bay Primary claimed gold with fellow finalists Aileymill taking silver.
