A GREENOCK bowling club has gone viral online in a Hollywood-esque TikTok video which sees a man desperately await some action on the green throughout the winter months.

Lady Alice Bowling Club features in the video made by @jmck88films, which sifts through pictures of the empty green during its closed season.

The video, set to Hans Zimmer's Remember from The Lion King, has racked up 312,000 views and 47,500 likes since it was posted three days ago.

Some of the photos show the green covered in frost and ice, and others depict it waterlogged under dark rainclouds.

Each photo is captioned ‘no bowls today’, with some also featuring witty, tongue-in-cheek updates too.

Bowls today

One from a cloudy day says: “Green looking okay but the weather’s not right for it and works are going on at the clubhouse.”

On another photo, the creator wrote: “Last update ‘til Tuesday. Dublin for the weekend (will be meeting with bowling green groundsmen and experts to discuss the best way to speed up the process and get back to our bowls).”

He also noted that it was 'such a shame' to have no bowls on International Women’s Day.

After the months of dismay, the video finally cuts to a photo of a green busy with players captioned ‘bowls today’.

TikTok users sent humerous replies to the video, with one commenting: “I cheered, I shouted, I fist pumped the air, I cried.”

In a reference to popular meme from the film Titanic, another replied: “It’s been 84 years.”

On Twitter, the bowling club: "As the nation watched @jmck88films’s daily Instagram stories, we shared their agony each day that there was no bowls.

"But yesterday, at long last, we were proud to be able to say: BOWLS TODAY.

"After a long year, the 2023/24 season is now open!"
