A PAIR of kind-hearted Inverclyde ladies are putting their best feet forward to raise money for a vital charity helping people with learning disabilities.

Fiona Kirkpatrick and Pamela Durk are taking on the Kiltwalk Big Stroll on Sunday to generate funds for Turning Point Scotland's Inverclyde base.

The determined walkers, who met at school and have known each other for more than 30 years, will set off from Clydebank and make their way to Balloch Country Park on the 14-mile jaunt.

Greenock Telegraph:

A fundraiser set up for the journey has already raised more than £200.

Fiona and Pamela were inspired to tackle the challenge through Fiona's son's experience of working with Turning Point.

Fiona said: "My son volunteered with Turning Point in Inverclyde as part of his Duke of Edinburgh award and did some sessional work for them working with people who have learning disabilities.

"He's always talking about the fun and enjoyment people get from getting out and about and from taking part in different activities.

"We're raising money so that the charity can run a lot of amazing activities that will help enrich the lives of people using the service."

Pamela, who owns and runs Ardgowan Health and Beauty on Brisbane Street in Greenock, is raffling off a luxurious Clarins hamper to raise funds fo the cause.

The community-focused businesswoman said she's very proud to be able to support the Inverclyde charity and is looking forward to the challenge.

Pamela added: "The public have been an amazing support to me and my business over the years so I wanted to give something back to the community.

"We thought it would be nice to support a smaller, local organisation.

"We did the full Kiltwalk a few years ago.

"There's always such a good atmopshere and it's so well organised."

Fiona says being able to chat to a good friend on the 14-mile stroll will make the challenge go by in a flash.

She added: "We're really excited about it

"We'll just take our time and will no doubt be chatting away constantly!"
