A GREENOCK choir has ended its season on a high with an ‘unforgettable’ performance at Lyle Kirk.
Greenock Philharmonic Choir performed Mendelssohn’s Elijah with Glasgow Chamber Orchestra at its spring concert last month.
The concert featured soloists Catriona Hewitson, Penelope Cousland, James Schouten, and Ross Cumming.
Choir chairman Calum Harbison said: “The music was terrific, the choir sang very well, and the orchestra were outstanding.
“Ross Cumming was particularly good as Elijah, and we were pleased to feature an octet from within the choir, singing ‘For He shall give His angels charge over thee’.
“The audience turnout was the best since the ‘Feel the Spirit’ concert in 2019, and the final chorus of ‘And then shall your light break forth’ was one of the highlights of recent years for the choir.”
The performance marked the end of the 2022/23 season, and was the choir’s final concert under conductor Andy McTaggart.
The choir will host a ‘come and sing coronation music’ event at St John’s Episcopal Church in Greenock on Saturday, August 19.

This will be led by new musical director Nicholas Wilks, and all singers will be welcome.
