Club secretary Sandy Wotherspoon told the Tele that the club is raring to go.

He said: “Opening day was fantastic.

“President Sam and his wife Isabel had a great day.

“We started things with a cabaret the night before and there was a charity event the day after which was held by a local family and raised a fantastic amount of money.

“It’s a huge year for the club, we’ve got a lot of big games and events here.

“On July 8 we’ll be one of the only four clubs in Scotland that will be hosting a quarter final of the Andrew Hamilton trophy, which is a county championship trophy.

“It’s a huge honour for the club.

“We’re looking forward to taking part in the Scottish fixtures and the Greenock and District competitions this year, but our big thing is our fantastic schools programme.

“We’ll be in every surrounding primary school every week and we’re keen to promote the club and the sport through that.

“We’re signed up to Bowls Scotland’s equality and diversity initiatives and everyone is always welcome at the Port.”
