INVERCLYDE Licensing Board has given local premises hosting coronation events permission to extend their opening hours.

Councillors agreed an extended hours policy for pubs, clubs and other licensed premises to hold coronation events this weekend.

Nightclubs will be able to open until 3.30am this Friday and Saturday, provided their bar closes at 3am.

They will also be allowed to keep their doors open until 2am on Sunday.

Non-nightclub licensed premises will be able to have a closing time of 2am on Friday and Saturday and will be allowed to shut up shop at 1am on Sunday.

Licensees do not have to submit an extended hours application for the approved dates and hours but the events being held must relate to the coronation of King Charles, which takes place on May 6.

Events such as birthday parties, anniversary, charity events and christenings will not be covered by the agreed extension and applications for later hours will have to be submitted as normal.
