KEEN swimmers made a splash at Gourock Pool as the iconic leisure facility opened on Friday for 2023.

Overcast skies did little to dent the enthusiasm of local bathers as they took the plunge into the popular outdoor pool for the first time this year.

St Columba’s school in Kilmacolm sent a mini-band from their piping and drumming section to help kick off proceedings by playing a variety of Scottish songs for those taking their first dip.

“I think that’s me now in my 21st season at Gourock pool so it’s very close to my heart.

“St Columba’s Piping and Drumming came down to support and generously donated their time to welcome customers as they come in.

Last year the pool opened without restrictions for the first time since 2019, after years of pandemic disruption.

Pool bosses say they have a busy calendar of events planned for this year, including the return and expansion of the popular starlit swims, a sports day, a triathlon event and doggy swim sessions.
