PEOPLE can learn to be a lifesaver thanks to first aid sessions in libraries across Inverclyde.

St Andrew's First Aid is hosting classes open to the public.

Martyn McLauchlan, community engagement trainer, speaking at Greenock Central Library, said: "It's a drop-in session across all the Inverclyde libraries.

"People can ask me any first aid questions. We cover falls, bleeding, wounds, heart attacks, access to defibrillators and how to use them.

"Out motto is to create a nation of lifesavers."

Martyn says Inverclyde was chosen to hold the sessions because of the high pockets of deprivation.

He said: "Inverclyde is one of the most socially deprived areas in Scotland. We've worked in all high schools in Inverclyde.

"It's about building up confidence and giving people the skills to deal with an emergency situation."
