HOUSING bosses are making a last-ditch effort to tackle major parking problems in Gourock - with a warning that this will be the final chance for vehicle owners to co-operate.

River Clyde Homes (RCH) has agreed to line-off spaces at the Burgh Car Park next month.

Residents are being urged to help by keeping the car park free from Sunday June 11 in order for the work to be carried out the following day.

Councillor Lynne Quinn says RCH tried to carry out the measures last year in response to a request from residents but were thwarted by the number of vehicles still left in the car park.

Greenock Telegraph:

Councillor Quinn said:"The parking here is a nightmare, people are just parking randomly, so I asked for bays to be lined off to maximise the space.

"They (RCH) tried to do it last year but the contractors said there were too many cars left in the car park.

"The residents were notified but the issue is that it's not just RCH tenants in Burgh Walk who use the car park, there are owners and other people whose homes are privately factored, so I have asked that other streets are lettered this time around."

Letters are being distributed at Burgh Walk, St John's Road, Adelaide Street, Castle Gardens, as well as to every vehicle in the car park.

Councillor Quinn said: "They will try once more to facilitate this but they won't do it again, so it is the last chance to get it done."

Pat Monaghan, RCH repairs and investment manager, says in the letter: "River Clyde Homes has instructed our service delivery partner HFS to paint parking spaces within the car park at Burgh Walk, Gourock on Monday 12 June.

"This has been requested by the residents in the area, however, works have not proceeded to date due to parked vehicles (residents and non-residents) when we’ve attempted to carry out the works previously.

"Unrestricted access to the car park will be required during these works. Therefore I kindly ask for your full co-operation during this time."
