AN AMAZING transformation of Gourock's historic Cloch Lighthouse into a luxury home will appear on a new TV show tonight.

The latest programme in the 'Derelict Rescue' series will feature Captain Duncan Telfer and his wife Junn as they take on the mammoth renovation.

Greenock Telegraph:

The lighthouse dates from 1797 and is B listed and noted as one of the most iconic lighthouses in the world.

Duncan bought the lighthouse in the 1980s, but after a lifetime at sea, he decided to transform it.

As the project reached the halfway point last summer, he told the Telegraph: "So much has changed since we started the renovations and we can really start to see things coming together.

Greenock Telegraph:

"We've made big changes - we rebuilt the entire back wall of the house with the original brick to allow us to put in a double window formation.

"We've knocked down a mezzanine floor to open up our new kitchen space which has the floor to ceiling window looking out over the Clyde.

"It's really starting to come together."

Greenock Telegraph:

Viewers of Derelict Rescue will see how Duncan and Junn face a relentless series of challenges on the project over the course of several years.

Derelict Rescue is an immersive new home renovation series, produced by Air TV for Warner Bros. Discovery. It has been in production for more than three-and-a-half years and features Britain's bravest homebuilders transforming derelict places into amazing spaces.

Greenock Telegraph:

Duncan said: "George Wyllie was a friend, so we wanted to pay tribute to him at the property and had the sculpture made.

"Artist Jill Watson has also created bronze holders for our rope bannister from mouldings she's taken of items on the beach.

"We plan on having artwork lit with spotlights going down the stairs of the hallway too."

Greenock Telegraph:

Other exciting parts of the project include restorations on the outbuildings, which will be used as additional living quarters and an outdoor barbecue and firepit area.

The couple have also lowered the external wall facing the Clyde and replaced it with a glass surround to ensure they can make the most of the special waterside view.

THE SCOTTISH LIGHTHOUSE is the final episode of the new series of Derelict Rescue. It will be aired at 8pm tonight, Monday June 5 on HGTV [Freeview 44, Sky 158, Virgin 286] and will also be available afterwards to stream on Discovery+.
