GREENOCK actor Martin Compston has teased the return of a popular Prime Video series after beginning readthroughs for its second season.

The 39-year-old starred in the first series of supernatural thriller The Rig earlier this year, playing the role of Fulmer Hamilton.

Released in January, the show - set on a North Sea oil rig named Kinloch Bravo - saw workers suddenly cut off from all external communications by a fog containing spores which cause behavioural changes.

The Line of Duty star shared a photo on his Instagram story on Tuesday, showing the cover of a script for the new season. He captioned the picture ‘back rigging’.

The new season is set to feature the same main characters as the first instalment, including Schitt's Creek star Emily Hampshire as Rose Mason, and Game of Thrones’ Iain Glen as Magnus MacMillan.

Still reeling from the fallout of season one, the rig’s crew will be faced with a ‘bold new location’ where fresh danger awaits.

Prime Video said the series will continue to explore global themes about the past, present, and future of the planet, while delivering ‘epic thrills’ and ‘gripping action’.

Martin was longlisted for a National Television Award for his performance as Fulmer last month, with the shortlist to be announced in August ahead of the final round of voting.

No release date for season two of The Rig has been indicated yet, but filming is due to begin in Edinburgh later this year.
