COASTGUARD officials have praised members of the public following a dramatic rescue off Gourock.

A full emergency response took place on Friday afternoon when a kayaker fell into the Clyde just off Kempock point.

Several 999 calls were made to the Coastguard reporting that the man had could not self-recover.

Greenock Telegraph:

A spokesman for Greenock Coastguard Rescue Team said: “The male was reported to have been in the water for around 25 minutes.

“He was initially assisted to shore by two members of the public who threw a rescue ring to save him.

“Coastguard officers arrived on scene and administered casualty care before handing him over to Scottish Ambulance Service.

“Well done to the quick-thinking members of public.”
