PEOPLE across Inverclyde took time to pay tribute to those who serve and have served in His Majesty's Armed Forces during an emotional ceremony in Greenock.

Inverclyde Council organised a service to mark Armed Forces Day 2023, and the end of Armed Forces Week.

Local councillors welcomed dignitaries to the front of the Municipal Buildings in Greenock for the service, which culminated in the raising of the Armed Forces Day flag.

They were joined by veterans who paid tribute to the fallen and to those who continue to serve.

Members of the public gathered in Clyde Square to listen to speeches which told of the bravery shown by men and women across Inverclyde and beyond.

Provost Drew McKenzie said: "We're here to acknowledge the debt we owe to the men and women who serve in the Armed Forces.

"They put themselves in harm's way and it's so important we recognise that."
