Organisers of this year's Port Glasgow's Comet Festival would have been relieved the fine weather did not break for their event held in the town's Coronation Park. Although the removal of the aged Comet replica from the town centre caused some controversy, the day was a resounding success thanks to the large number of visitors who turned out to enjoy the fun. Here are some pictures of previous, successful Comet Festivals.

Pic3: Although health and safety measures meant the banning of decorated floats, street processions in Port Glasgow town centre were very much a part of the festival. This shot shows schoolchildren making their way through the town with decorations they had made as part of a school Comet project.
