I WAS struck a couple of weeks ago by comments that SNP First Minister Humza Yousaf made to the BBC.

He said that SNP MPs after the next election would seek to “make life difficult” for a Labour government.

I was really blown away by that comment.

After 13 years of Tory government, I would have thought that the last thing that the SNP would be doing would be siding with the Tories in the House of Commons to make life difficult for Labour, but that seems to be what he was suggesting.

When I listened back to it, when he was pushed by the interviewer he said that would mean being difficult on Labour’s budget and legislation.

Does this mean that SNP MPs would side with the Tories to obstruct a Labour budget?

Does it mean that they would vote down critical pieces of legislation that the Labour Party are proposing, like a windfall tax on rip-off energy companies or measures to support people who are struggling to pay their rent and mortgages?

If so, this is absolutely shameful and they deserve to lose the next election badly.

I was interested in hearing what our local SNP MP, Ronnie Cowan, thought of this but having read all his columns in the Telegraph since there has been no mention of it.

He owes it to people across Inverclyde to make his position clear.

Does he agree with Humza Yousaf and would he seek to “make life difficult” for a Labour government if he was to be returned as our MP again?

Would he side with the Tories and vote down a Labour budget or Labour legislation?

People deserve to know.

Those of us with slightly longer memories might remember what happened in 1979 when SNP MPs trooped through the voting lobbies to bring down a Labour government.

We all know what happened after that – Mrs Thatcher and 18 years of Conservative Government that we’re still recovering from.

Is this what the SNP are intending to do again?
