PORT Glasgow Railway Station will be shut overnight this weekend as work to install a new footbridge is carried out.

Network Rail have confirmed the entrances to the station will be shut overnight on July 22 and 23.

The nearby park and ride on Highholm Avenue will be shut from July 20 until Monday 24 while the crane which will lift the new footbridge into place is positioned.

The work is part of a major £5m transformation project currently being carried out at the station.

In addition to the new footbrigde, the programme of works will also see the installation of new lifts and ramped access to the main station entrance at Princes Street.

The aim is to make the station easier to access for people with impaired mobility, including wheelchair users, plus parents with buggies and people with luggage.
