A FANTASTIC fun day has raised hundreds of pounds to help some of the area’s most vulnerable people.

Locals enjoyed a packed programme of fun games, events and stalls at Tesco Greenock’s summer fete.

The fun-filled afternoon included a visit from Finlaystone Estate’s birds of prey and the Ark, a chance to throw sponges at the Tesco team and a vintage fire engine.

The organisers also arranged a bric-a-brac stall, home baking, a tombola, a raffle, a lucky dip and a barbecue.

The cash raised from the fun day will be used by the local supermarket to help some of the area’s most vulnerable people, by supporting a series of events and appeals at the end of this year.

Tesco staff member James Crawford, who arranged the event alongside his colleague’s from the Tesco social team, told the Telegraph it had been a big success.

He said: “We would like to thank the 5th District & Greenock Scouts for all their support on the day in running the barbecue for us and the candy floss stall, as well as providing music.

“We also want to say a huge thank-you to all of our colleagues, friends and customers for all their support and to all our colleagues for taking the time to make cakes for our home baking stall.

“We are grateful to Cheeky Burger Van who donated some cakes as well.

“We managed to raise an amazing £967.59 and the feedback we got from the customers on the day was brilliant.

“We’re now planning a Christmas Market Day on December 2, which we hope will also be a success.”
