A LOCAL MSP has highlighted the lack of lifesaving defibrillators at railway stations in Inverclyde as he mounts a new campaign at Holyrood.

Currently there is only one defib at the 13 stations in the district, located at Port Glasgow.

Conservative Jamie Greene says it would be 'common sense' to have more of the devices at local stops.

He pressed former SNP transport minister Kevin Stewart on the issue, who replied that there are currently 56 of the machines across stations in Scotland.

Mr Greene wants more in the district and has put Greenock Central forward as a location.

The MSP said: “While it is welcome that over 50 stations in Scotland now have them on site, I am keen to ensure that staff and passengers using Greenock Central Railway Station have access to one too.

“You never know when an emergency situation might arise, so having a defibrillator on hand to use before emergency services arrive would be of great help.

“Greenock Central is a busy station so I believe it is common sense for a device to be installed here.”

In his official parliamentary response, Mr Stewart confirmed that there are plans for more of the lifesaving machines to be rolled out across Scotland.

Now Mr Greene is 'urging locals to get behind his campaign for Greenock Central'.
