A GROUP of talented young Inverclyde musicians have enjoyed a summer of note including performances on the national stage and on TV.

Six members of Riverside Youth Band recently took part in the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland’s (NYBBS) residential summer course at Strathallan School in Perthshire.

Two of the participants gained principal seats – Ash Paton on rep cornet and Scott Crumlish on percussion.

They were joined in the senior band by Andrea Crumlish, Siobhan Crumlish and Katie Livingstone.

Catherine Darroch was part of the thriving reserve band and was in the back row cornet team which scooped the award for Best Section.

Ash and Scott also had the chance to perform live on ITV’s Good Morning Britain with the principal ensemble, as part of the Edinburgh International Festival launch.

The pair took part in further performances at Princes Street Gardens and Perth Concert Hall during the course.

This summer also saw the band hold its latest pBuzz camp, which offers Inverclyde youngsters the chance to take the first steps in their musical journey.

The event was led by Laura Good and ran for several days at the Port Glasgow Salvation Army hall.

Mark Good, band musical director, said: “The summer may have seen a break in rehearsals but it was full steam ahead for many of our members.

“Taking part in the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland saw them learn from internationally-renowned conductors and tutorial staff, while making friendships to last a lifetime.

"Our pBuzz camp has now become an annual fixture, and it was wonderful to see young people immerse themselves in the various activities.

“Hopefully, we can welcome some of them to the ranks of the organisation, which now offers a pathway from beginners to experienced young performers."

Riverside Youth Band rehearses in Port Glasgow New Parish Church on Friday afternoons, with more young brass and percussion players welcome to get involved.
