ICONIC Cunard cruise ship Queen Victoria is back in town today - but for once she won't be the main attraction on the waterfront.

The liner returned to Greenock Ocean Terminal early this morning on the latest stop of a 12-day, round-trip of the British Isles.

The vessel will help play a supporting role as the town's new £20m cruise terminal is officially opened later today.

The ceremony will be taking place this afternoon, with government and council representatives joining other officials.

The building will be officially opened by Lord Malcolm Offord, UK Government Minister for Scotland, and Neil Gray MSP, Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary for Wellbeing, Economy, Fair Work, and Energy.

Provost of Inverclyde, Councillor Drew McKenzie, and other senior representatives from Inverclyde Council will also be there along with key figures from partner organisations involved in the development.

The £20m cruise ship visitor centre has been delivered by Inverclyde Council thanks to funding by the UK and Scottish governments through the Glasgow City Region City Deal and contributions from the George Wyllie Foundation and Peel Ports. The facility also features a Scotts bar and restaurant on the upper level with significant investment from operators Buzzworks.
