The Disney Dream cruise ship played popular tunes with its horn entertaining crowds of people who flocked to Greenock's Esplanade to see the vessel.

Hundreds of locals and visitors attended at the water's edge to catch a glimpse of the magical ship as she departed this evening.

The heavy rain didn't dampen the excitement and bystanders were lucky enough to be treated to short blasts of songs including 'When You Wish Upon A Star' and 'A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes' as well as many others.

David Kane managed to capture the event on video. He said "the whole Splash went quiet so everyone could hear".

Greenock Telegraph Camera Club member David Burrows said: "Quite honestly never seen anything like it. There must be 1,000s here."

The 4,000-passenger ship left around 6:30pm to begin her journey to Liverpool.

Greenock Telegraph:

Disney Dream arrived in at Greenock Ocean Terminal early this morning on stop number two of her seven-day trip around the British Isles.

The ship has become accustomed to Caribbean cruises since her launch in 2011, but sailed across the Atlantic in May this year to begin European voyages.

Greenock Telegraph:

At 1,115 feet, the 130,000-tonne vessel is longer than the height of the Eiffel Tower.

The ship’s stern features a large stainless steel and fibreglass figure of Mickey Mouse, which weighs approximately 2,500 pounds.

On-board entertainment includes live shows that allow passengers to relive iconic movie moments and meet-and-greets with beloved characters from the franchise’s films.

Most of the ship’s itineraries include a fireworks display while at sea and also offer cruise ship goers a first look at some of the latest Disney motion picture releases.

This was the ship's first visit to the town - but hopefully not the last.
