A FRAMED Scottish Parliament motion celebrating ten years of the Beacon in Greenock has been presented to the arts centre by the man who moved it.

West Scotland MSP Paul O'Kane, whose area includes Inverclyde, wanted to honour the Greenock Arts Guild's first decade at the iconic venue.

Mr O'Kane's motion - which was published in May - touches on the history of the guild, including its move from the Greenock Arts Guild Theatre to the 'modern and innovative' Beacon.

He met with Beacon general manager Lesley Davidson to present her with the motion.

Mr O'Kane said: “I was delighted to be able to finally give the framed motion over to the Beacon Arts Centre and it was a great opportunity to have a proper look at the venue again.”

“I hope the framed motion will be seen by guests and I hope staff will look upon it and feel proud that they’re working for a culturally vital institution.

“I will continue to raise awareness of the work of the Greenock Arts Guild and their fantastic venue in every way I can and I look forward to seeing a show there soon.”

Ms Davidson, acting joint director of the Beacon, said: “We were delighted to welcome Paul to tell him more about our work to make the arts accessible to people in Inverclyde and further afield.

“He was taken on a tour of the centre, and we discussed our exciting programme of upcoming events and community outreach work.

“We were thrilled to be recognised at the Scottish Parliament through the motion lodged by Paul.

“We’re proud to play our part in raising the profile of Inverclyde and are grateful to Paul for his support.”
