PARTS of Inverclyde have been hit by severe flooding this morning following heavy rainfall overnight - with a section of a railway line being left underwater.

Train services between Glasgow Central and Wemyss Bay are affected after the line was closed.

An image shared on social media by Network Rail showed water nearing the platform edge at Branchton early this morning.

ScotRail said staff remain on site and will continue monitoring flood water.

In the meantime, trains will start and terminate at Port Glasgow – and bus ticket acceptance has been requested for relevant routes.

Elsewhere, a school bus was seen abandoned on Cumberland Road this morning.

Greenock’s Tesco store is also experiencing issues with leaks from its roof, with two escalators being closed off to customers.
