HAVE you noticed just how early it is getting dark each night?

Over the past weeks darkness has fallen shortly after seven o’clock each evening.

With the autumnal equinox just last week we will soon be getting ready for the end of British Summer Time which ends on October 29, just a month from now.

At 2am our clocks will change and as the old adage reminds us – it’s fall back and Greenwich Mean Time takes over.

The good news is that we all get an extra hour in bed and it will gradually become darker until the shortest day looms at the end of December, after which the hours of daylight will gradually increase.

In terms of gardening there is not too much to do, but do keep a watch out for any damage caused by winter winds and keep removing fallen leaves from the lawns and footpaths an also make sure you clear gutters.

Place a net over a pond if you have one in order to prevent leaves from falling into the pond water where the leaves can cause foul water to harm aquatic life.

Be ever vigilant over the winter months.
