A GAME-for-a-laugh Greenock woman is set to take to the stage as a rookie stand-up comedian in a funny bid to raise money for a great cause.

Gaynor Lochhead has signed up for an eight-week comedy course which will culminate in her performing a five-minute routine in front of a live audience.

The 49-year-old trainee comic is embracing the laughter challenge to boost the funds of Christian support charity Kidron.

Gaynor, who works for Your Voice, is revelling in the comedy workshop.

She told the Tele: "The first week was amazing - I came out of it absolutely buzzing, knowing that I had picked the right challenge for me

"I absolutely loved it."

Gaynor last raised money for Kidron in 2021 when she gathered people together at locations across Inverclyde to perform the Jerusalema dance craze.

Greenock Telegraph:

She said she wanted to do something 'different' this time around.

Gaynor added: "I didn't want to do a walk or steps, I walk every day anyway.

"It had to be something fun for me or I just knew I wouldn't engage with it."

She was scrolling through Facebook when information about the Ultra Comedy workshop popped up on her news feed, and everyone who signs up gets the chance to raise money for the charity of their choice.

Gaynor said: "In the work that I do, I signpost people to a lot of amazing activities across Inverclyde but I don't get the chance to take part in that many myself.

"I decided I wanted to do some fun stuff, something that was fun just for me."

Gaynor and 35 other would-be comics are being mentored by Glasgow comedian Viv Gee.

Greenock Telegraph:

Gaynor said: "The first week was all about finding your story and we're going to learn about attitude next time.

"We were right in at the deep end as Viv got us up on the stage within minutes.

"I got quite a few laughs and a couple of high fives so I'm feeling really positive about it.

"It's all about trying to be authentic and being yourself."

Gaynor is hoping to raise £500 for Kidron as has already passed the £100-mark.

She says she's looking forward to learning about all the tools she'll need to get audiences rolling in the aisles, adding: "I see humour in everything.

"I walk about and see things and I'm writing comedy sketches in my head all the time.

"This has opened up another wee dimension of my brain.

"I've met so many really funny people, people I would never have met had I not signed up for it.

"I feel really blessed to be able to do this."

Gaynor will perform her stand-up routine at the Drygate in Glasgow on November 12.
