LARGE parts of the coast Inverclyde could be at risk of flooding in the next three decades due to global warming according to experts.
Independent research group Climate Central created a 'coastal risk screening tool' which shows areas of land projected to be below annual flood level in less than 30 years' time.
Using the tool, areas of the Inverclyde coastline which would be at risk by 2050 can be mapped.
Unless flood defence measures are in place, the tool shows areas such as Port Glasgow, Gourock, the coastline at Castle Levan, Ardgowan Estate and Wemyss Bay are all under threat.
Places in Greenock are also under threat, including the riverside at the Waterfront Leisure Complex in the town.
A small area at Gourock below Lyle Hill is highlighted too, as well as further up the coast at Langbank.
