A CHARITY night in honour of a much-missed grandfather has raised more than £2,500 for a worthy local cause.
Local woman Lisa Halliday ran a fundraising night for Ardgowan Hospice at the Regent Club in memory of her grandfather Chalie Byrne, who was due to receive care at the facility before his passing ten years ago.
Lisa has run several fundraisers for the hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support since Charlie’s passing, raising more than £6,000 in the process.
She told the Telegraph she was delighted to be support the worthy cause once more.
She said: “This is the biggest event we’ve had, we held it in the Regent Club, which he used to be a member of.
“We had a lot of donations for the raffle and my uncle Robert Halliday donated a signed Celtic top which raised a huge amount.
“I want to say a big thank-you to everyone who helped out and made donations.
“We raised £2,635 on the night and since he died, we’ve been fundraising for the hospice and Macmillan Cancer, because he had a Macmillan nurse.
“Between the two, over the ten years I’ve raised just over £6,000 so it was great to hit that milestone. It’s all for him.
“We’ve got family over the years who’ve used the hospice, so it has an important place in our hearts as it does for many people locally.”
