THE work of late Greenock artist Gavin Nicol is on display at an exhibition in Milngavie.

Mr Nicol sadly passed away in March 2020 at the age of 92 but his legacy lives on through his work.

His wife Frances says the exhibition at the Lillie Art Gallery in Milngavie Town Hall in Station Road will feature an extensive range of his artwork.

She said: "Gavin was born in 1927 in Brachelston Street and attended Greenock High School and Glasgow School of Art.

"He taught in lots of local schools in Port Glasgow and Greenock, so he was well known."

The acclaimed artist was influenced by the works of Cezanne, Braque and Itten, and the colour theories of Chevreul.

He and his wife lived in Skelmorlie and Frances curated an exhibition of his work in the Manse at Skelmorlie Parish Church last year.

The current exhibition runs Tuesday through Saturday until December 19.
