AN open day hosted by Inverclyde Shed has helped boost its membership by almost 11 per cent.

The team at the Shed recently welcomed people to the organisation's East Blackhall Street base and got a great turnout.

While members of the public are welcome to pop along to the Shed at any time, the open day gave people the chance to experience the whole range of activities that the Shed has to offer. A steady stream of people dropped by through the day to find out more about getting involved, and membership grew from 284 to 314 as a result.

Greenock Telegraph:
Inverclyde Shed trustee Tosca Lahiri was delighted by the response.

She said: "It was a great day. We had people from all over Inverclyde popping in to find out more about what we do, and it was great to see everyone meeting each other."

Greenock Telegraph:
On the day, people got to find out more about the Shed's model making, sewing, 3D printing, art, and spoon carving clubs. Prospective new members also got to see some of the amazing produce grown in community gardens run by Inverclyde Shed, and tasted some honey produced by the bees at the Muirshiel site in Port Glasgow.

Greenock Telegraph:
The event was supported by Community Land Scotland and organised to coincide with Community Land Week, which celebrates community ownership across the country.

The East Blackhall Street base was acquired by the team at Inverclyde Shed through community asset transfer and Tosca said people enjoyed hearing about the process of taking on the premises.

Greenock Telegraph:
The event was so successful, the team plan to run it again next year.

Tosca added: "It was great to see potential new members chatting to existing members and finding out more about what we do. We're looking forward to running another event in the future."
