There has recently been an increase in the number of bedbug infestations, even though they have been an issue in the UK for many years.
The reason people fear them invading their homes is because they can bite but it’s thought no other health problems usually occur other than the bites being itchy.
The signs of bedbugs according to the NHS include bites, often on skin exposed while sleeping such as on the face, neck and arms.
Some may also notice spots of blood on bedding from the bites or from squashing a bedbug.

Do you get bedbugs from being dirty?
A common myth is that people have bedbug infestations due to being dirty.
“These bugs are not drawn to decay,” writes Action Pest Control.
“They can live in any environment, as long as they have access to their food source. Understanding this is vital in preventing a bed bug infestation.”
Action Pest Control says the small insects require blood to breed and blood meals to survive.
The experts add: “They aren't drawn to clutter, but clutter will help these bugs avoid detection longer.
“This has given rise to the belief that bed bugs are drawn to filthy places, but filth and clutter are not the cause of bedbugs.
“These bugs can live in the cleanest and neatest of environments. It is just more difficult for them to continue to avoid detection.”

Where do bedbugs come from?
Bedbugs can come from numerous places and they are often dubbed ‘hitchhiking bugs’.
