TWO Inverclyde men have appeared in court accused of carrying out a violent assault and robbery in Gourock.

Christopher Morrison, 43, and David Morrison, 47, are alleged to have attacked a man on Shore Street on November 1.

Prosecutors say the pair struck him on the head with a metal pole and a hammer to his injury, as well as robbing him of a mobile phone and a quantity of money.

They appeared on petition at a private hearing at Greenock Sheriff Court on Thursday and made no plea through defence solicitor Aidan Gallagher.

Sheriff Edward Gilroy committed the case for further examination and released both men on bail.

The date of their next court appearance is to be confirmed.
