A GOUROCK DJ who fondly remembers singing in Greenock Town Hall as part of his school choir is set to transform the historic building into a boiler-room style music venue for his biggest ever hometown show.

Bruce Glenny is planning to play a special set at the civic hall at the end of the year, with all of the proceeds going to Ardgowan Hospice.

The local music producer will be joined by many of his long-time collaborators and friends at the event, which will cap off his months-long UK tour.

Bruce and his team from Summer Friends Productions have been hard at work on production for the gig and hope their hard work will give the well-known venue a brand-new look for those coming along to enjoy.

The talented musician can’t wait to bring his audience in for the big show.

He said: “It’ll be Greenock Town Hall like you’ve never seen it before.

“We're going to make it a boiler-room style gig, basically we’ll be playing in the middle of the dance floor with everyone around us.

“We’ll have pyro, screens, lasers, lights, the works.

“I think it’ll be one of the best and one of the most different things that’s ever happened in here.

“I wanted to play somewhere people wouldn’t expect and put my own stamp on it, this is the only venue of that size around here and it’s a great place for that.

“I think I was in here with the Gourock Primary school choir for the festival when I was primary six, so this is quite a change.

“I won’t be singing ‘If it wisnae for yer wellies’ on the night anyway!

“Hopefully it’ll be completely different and eye-catching.

“It’s the last day of my tour, we’ll be playing it in venues across the UK in places like London, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

“We’re finishing it up on Greenock on the 29th and bringing things home with my biggest gig yet.

“All of the profits from the gig are going to the hospice, which is a great charity.”

Like many locals, Ardgowan Hospice holds a special place in Bruce’s heart and he told the Tele that he was delighted to be raising cash for the charity.

He said: “Everyone around here’s got their own reasons for supporting the hospice, for me there’s the passing of my grandpa, he did a lot of work for them.

“My family have a good connection with them, and I’ve always wanted to do something to support them, I was just waiting for the right time.

“They’ve helped my family in times before and they always assist the people that need it most, so it’s time to give back a little bit.

“Coming back home and being at the town hall is exciting and it makes sense to have them be part of that.

“It’s the biggest show we’ve done here and the biggest in terms of production too, the line-up of DJs is also brilliant.

“A lot of my family and friends are coming and will be involved.

“The boys from Summer Friends have been working constantly to get the place ready and work out what’ll look the best.

“I’m hoping everyone comes along to have a good night and support a good cause.”
