A GREENOCK man with a 'significant record for offending' has been jailed for threatening his former girlfriend and her new partner.

James Kerr, who is currently locked up and awaiting trial for separate alleged offences, received a two-month prison term for acting aggressively at the woman's home last month.

Greenock Sheriff Court heard the 42-year-old turned up at the property in the Broomhill area on October 23 and entered without invitation, before acting in an aggressive manner, shouting and swearing.

The offence was committed whilst Kerr was on a bail order from November 2022.

Procurator fiscal depute Anne Marie Hicks told the hearing: "The complainer was in a relationship with the accused and it ended a number of years ago.

"The incident occurred when the accused attended at her home and she was in the property with her current partner and her mother.

"The accused attended and immediately began shouting and swearing and presenting in an aggressive manner.

"He was directing the shouting particularly towards her current partner."

Kerr was eventually calmed down but threatened to return the following day and the incident was reported to police.

Defence solicitor Rhona Lynch said Kerr is now in custody in relation to another matter.

Mrs Lynch said: "He is a man with a significant record for offending.

"He felt she wasn't being truthful to him about the extent of her relationship with her current partner.

"He foolishly went to the address to collect a phone that belonged to his sister and spent a weekend in custody for his troubles.

"He does not plan to have any further contact with her."

Sheriff Anthony McGeehan said Kerr's behaviour was 'obviously unacceptable'.

Kerr, of Belville Street, was sentenced to two months imprisonment and a one-year non-harassment order - requiring him to refrain from contacting or approaching the woman - was also imposed.
