GREENOCK’S Beacon Arts Centre has 'broken down barriers' to ensure its pantomime is accessible for all this year.

Rehearsals are underway for Beauty and the Beast, which will run from December 9-31.

The show stars Still Game’s Jane McCarry and Mark Cox, as well as Jimmy Chisholm of River City and panto stalwart Lee Samuel.

After its accessible performances proved popular last year, the venue will host a British Sign Language performance on December 17 at 5pm.

The Beacon also has a range of visual resources available for those with autism.

These are designed to prepare visitors for a new experience and help them become familiar with the venue beforehand.

Greenock Telegraph:

Sensory packs can be hired from the venue too, with each containing items such as weighted blankets, ear defenders and fidget toys.

There will be plenty of space for wheelchair users in both the stalls and circle areas of the theatre.

As part of the venue’s commitment to making panto accessible to all, complimentary tickets will be available to disabled companions who hold membership under the Beacon’s Access Register.

Beacon co-director Karen Townsend said: “As rehearsals get underway for Beauty and the Beast, everyone at Beacon Arts Centre is excited to share this year’s panto.

“It is a show for everyone in the community and we are determined that no one should miss out on the magic and fun of panto season.

“We have worked hard to break down barriers for those who may need more support or assistance to come to the show.

“It promises to be a magical show and we look forward to welcoming children and adults of all ages along.”
