A PAIR of kind schoolgirls have used their pocket money to buy sweets for less fortunate children as part of a local business’s Christmas appeal.

Gourock Primary pupils Katie Moore, seven, and Addison Sinnamon, nine, have given away their hard-earned cash to Green Oak Funeral Services’ festive selection box appeal.

The local funeral firm is running the appeal in conjunction with Port Glasgow Funeral Services and hopes to hand over dozens of selection boxes of chocolates to Children In Poverty Inverclyde.

The appeal only started last week but locals have already dropped off more than 60 boxes to the parlour.

Stephanie Quinn, of Green Oak, told the Tele she was overwhelmed by the support the appeal had received.

She said: “Things have just kicked off and we’re asking everyone to get involved.

“I am delighted by how kind people have been so far, we’ve already had a lot of donations.

“It’s being run between Green Oak Funeral Services and Port Glasgow funeral services and we’re aiming to bring in as many as we can.

“It’s really important to do things like this, especially at this time of year.

“We just wanted to do our bit and help out those less fortunate in our community.”

Katie and Addison hope their generous donation will help put a smile on the face of other, less fortunate children in the area.

Katie said: “I spent my pocket money to help out kids who don’t have anything at Christmas.

“It can help them at this time of year.

“Some children will not have anything so it’s good to help them.”

The funeral homes intend to hand over the collected selection boxes to Children In Poverty Inverclyde on December 8.

Those who wish to donate can drop off boxes at Green Oak Funeral Services on Jamaica Street or Port Glasgow Funeral Services on John Wood Street.
