INVERCLYDE MP Ronnie Cowan says introducing additional train services between Gourock and Glasgow and suspending peak fares are 'compelling and credible ways' to get people back onto public transport.
The senior politician has welcomed ScotRail's new winter timetable which brings in seven extra trains on the Inverclyde line, creating a half-hourly service on Sundays.
Peak fares have also been suspended for six months in a pilot scheme being subsidised by £15m from the Scottish Government.
ScotRail ran a separate consultation on train Services across Inverclyde and results, which are due to be released soon, are expected to 'significantly' improve services.
Mr Cowan said everyone will see a 'marked improvement' in weekend services from Sunday.
He added: "The changes this coming weekend will make travel to and from Glasgow much more convenient for my constituents who do not own a car, and will encourage those who do own a car to use the train instead.
"Reliable services, good fare pricing and convenient timings for trains are the way to go about this and I believe ScotRail is making significant progress."
