INVERCLYDE MSP Stuart McMillan says he's 'confident' that ScotRail's decision to run extra trains from Gourock to Glasgow this winter will encourage more passengers to switch to rail travel.

Mr McMillan has welcomed the news that from this weekend, there will be a half-hourly service between Gourock and Glasgow Central every Sunday.

Services will leave Gourock between 12.23pm and 7.23pm, and from Glasgow between 11.20am and 6.20pm

The local MSP also praised the Scottish Government's 'peak fare removal pilot'.

Mr McMillan added: "I know that the temporary removal of certain train services over the past six months has been frustrating for passengers but I believe that these additional services were worth that short-term change to enable ScotRail to train more drivers.

"I am confident that these additional services will result in more people taking the train in Inverclyde.

“This is good news for our environment, and thanks to the Scottish Government’s peak fare pilot and the various railcards of offer, it could also be better for our bank balances."
