ONE of the best loved Christmas stories of all time is making a comeback at the Beacon thanks to a local director.

The Charles Dickens masterpiece A Christmas Carol will be brought alive on stage by No Nonsense Productions' Kevin Jannetts as a 'radio play on stage'.

Talented performer and producer Kevin has set his version of the classic as a 1950s-style broadcast.

Like his similar production of its 'It's A Wonderful Life' the audience is transported to a time when radio was king.

Kevin, from Greenock, said: "This is the first time we performed A Christmas Carol since Covid and it is great to be back. A Christmas Carol is hugely popular with audiences.

"We love coming to the Beacon at Christmas."

Once again he has cast actors Ian Sommerville, Stewart Phillips and Felix O'Brien in the main roles.

Featuring live sound effects and an original score, this is a rare opportunity to see how a 1950s radio broadcast would have been produced.

In the last ten years No Nonsense Productions has become a festive fixture with their live performances bringing a vintage glow to the Christmas calendar at the arts centre.

But they have also expanded to radio plays at other times of the year with 'Para Handy, Frankenstein and Dracula.

The A Christmas Carol: A Radio Play on Stage, will be performed for the first time at Kilmardinny House in Bearsden on Saturday.

Kevin also leads the Inverclyde Youth Theatre, Kayos, for 15 to 25 year olds.

Beacon Arts Centre digital co-ordinator Finlay Birch is delighted to have the Christmas Carol in town.

He said: "We are all looking forward to having the show at the Beacon."

A Christmas Carol: A radio play on stage has four shows at the Beacon opening on Thursday December 21, Friday December 22 at 7.30pm and then Saturday December 23 at 2.30 and 7.30pm.
