FORMER councillor Chris McEleny has launched a campaign to keep Greenock Police Station open.
Mr McEleny is fighting against a planned closure of the Rue End Street base, which is among a number of facilities earmarked to shut.
The general secretary of Alba Party, said: "If Police Scotland close stations across the west of Scotland it will result in the remaining stations being overwhelmed, with officers spending vast amounts of their shifts taxiing people they have arrested to Glasgow, to then sit and wait in a queue to put them into custody.
"Our officers should be free to spend their time in our communities and that requires them to be based in them.
"Our communities must stand up and oppose these closures.”
