TWO Inverclyde women have been awarded prestigious accolades in the 2024 New Year's honours list.
Inverclyde Council chief executive Louise Long has received a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE), and a British Empire Medal (BEM) has been given to Girlguiding president Margaret Douglas Rae from Kilmacolm.
Louise Long, 53, is a qualified social worker and has been part of local government for the last 33 years.
In 2021 she became the Chief Executive of Inverclyde Council. She is also the co-chair of the Scottish Government National Children and Families Leadership Group, and director and trustee of the Young Scot Board.
Margaret Douglas Rae, 80, has been involved in Girlguiding for 50 years.
She has climbed Munro summits with guiding groups, and was a committed Scottish Walking advisor, encouraging people to gain the qualifications needed to lead young members into the hills.
