A GREENOCK street food café has been named the best in Scotland just months after opening its doors.
Since launching in August last year, Umami by 17Ngon on Argyll Street has been serving up an array of Pan Asian dishes.
The business picked up the Pan Asian Restaurant of the Year title at last night’s Scottish Asian Food Awards in Glasgow – seeing off competition from eateries in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Dundee.
The café is run by chef Ben Egan who previously worked in Michelin star restaurants before moving to Inverclyde.
Ben also travelled extensively through Asia, where he developed a love for cuisines such as Japanese and Vietnamese.
A spokesperson for the Scottish Asian Food Awards said: “It was another excellent event and we’re proud to be able to shine a spotlight on the trailblazers who enrich our culinary experience every day.
“We want to congratulate all our winners and highly commended recipients on their accomplishment.”
