Rainbow Family Centre children get new playground ship

Rainbow Family Centre is home to a fantastic new playpark area which has been built by the team from Belville Community Garden.

It takes pride of place at the Oronsay Avenue nursery and the youngsters have been quick to get on board and make the most of it.

The community garden is also reaching out to other groups in Inverclyde, as its footprint continues to grow.

They are working with Port Glasgow Health Centre to make their grounds more welcoming by growing a garden.

Belville Community Garden's skills advisor John McLennan said: "It has been fantastic working with Rainbow Family Centre and to see the smiles on the kids' faces.

"They have so much fun and it was a lovely project to be involved in."

Belville Community Garden is a wide reaching project offering support and activities and education.

Staff and volunteers are celebrating a decade since the garden was founded, taking over the site of the demolished high flats in the east end.

Four years ago they came to the rescue in Inverclyde during the Covid-19 pandemic, by leading efforts to deliver food parcels to those isolating and stuck at home alone.

Now they are continuing their grassroots work in the community with people of all ages.

Rainbow Family Centre staff say they are delighted with the new play equipment and the collaboration with Belville.

Jacqueline Coombes, acting depute head, said: "The children just absolutely love their ship, they are having so much fun."

Meanwhile in the town centre John and his team have been busy working with Inverclyde health and social care partnership to provide some green space outside the health centre.

They have put planters in place and have plans to grow plants and vegetables there.

John added:" We have enjoyed working with the HSCP team on this and hopefully the planters will add some colour."
