A FIRE within a close in Greenock town centre early this morning is being treated as 'wilful', police have confirmed.
Officers attended the incident on Cathcart Street shortly before 6am.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Police received a report of a fire within a close on Cathcart Street in Greenock around 5.50am on Monday 15 January.
“The fire is being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing.”
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: “Operations Control mobilised two appliances and specialist resources, where firefighters extinguished a small fire within the first floor of a three-storey building.
“No casualties were reported, and the crew left after ensuring the area was made safe.”
