RETROSPECTIVE planning permission is being sought to use agricultural land in Inverkip as a dog exercise field.

Proposals to turn land off Spey Road in Inverkip into a secure site for dogs to run off-lead are being considered by Inverclyde Council planners.

Sign-off is sought for changing the use of the land, the construction of boundary fencing, a shelter and the formation of a car parking area at the site.

A supporting statement submitted alongside the application outlines the owner’s plan for the site.

It says: “There are a lot of antisocial dogs, many of which are rescue dogs, that cannot be exercised in public because they are aggressive, reactive or have poor recall.

“These dogs represent a risk to people, especially children, other dogs and livestock.

“The concept of the Run Free dog fields is to allow dog walkers and owners to bring their dogs to a secure site, let them run off the leash and they will be kept away from the public, other dogs and traffic.

“All dog waste will be contained within the secure site, for easier collection and removal.

“We will have a record of who is using the field at all times.”
