A WEST End stage star will inspire youngsters to follow their dreams when he visits Greenock next month.

Keith Jack shot to fame in the BBC'S' Any Dream Will Do' when he was runner-up in Andrew Lloyd Webber's search to find an unknown 'Joseph' for the show's revival.

Now he is coming to Inverclyde to run a workshop for kids at Riverside Stage Company.

Greenock Telegraph:

He has invited 30 of them to star in the show Dreamcoat Stars which he is producing at the Beacon Arts Centre in May.

Greenock Telegraph:

Thomas Williams, who co-founded the drama group, said: "Keith is coming up from London with his fiancee, who is a dancer in the west end, to run a workshop on February 18.

"The kids are really excited that someone in the industry is going to take a class, a good few of the kids are aiming to be on the West End stage and have loads of questions they want to ask."

Greenock Telegraph:

Thomas is also thrilled that Keith has also invited the drama group to perform in the Dreamcoat show.

Keith is the producer and the show tours all over the UK and Ireland and invites local theatre groups to get involved.

Thomas said: "This is an amazing opportunity for the kids to work with someone who has been in their shoes and now produces shows and tours the UK with his Dreamcoat show with other West End stars.

"I feel really excited and nervous at the same time, it's an opportunity that might never happen again.

"The kids will perform four songs, three are back-up songs to the ones Joseph sings and the other one is a medley of 'Matilda' songs.

"It could open doors, the fact that Keith is also a producer means that one of our kids might be exactly what he is looking for in a future show."

Thomas got to know Keith after going to see the show last year.

He said: "There was a question and answer session on stage and he answered ours. We've stayed in touch since then.

"He's a great person to know and is also a good friend of John Barrowman.

"I hope Keith can help to take the kids a wee bit further with their theatre lives."

Dreamcoat Stars runs at the Beacon on May 3.

Meantime the Riverside kids are busy rehearsing for their spring show Shrek, which is running at Port Glasgow Town Hall on May 23,24 and 25. The group rehearse at Paton Street Community Centre on Sundays.
