ANOTHER fantastic week at Inverclyde Music Festival has drawn to a close with the annual gala’s stars now gearing up for an exciting closing concert.

The musical event’s second week has featured a number of excellent performances from local choirs, talented instrumentalists and gifted country dancers, as well as wonderful recitals from some of the area’s best and brightest speakers.

The week got under way with two brilliant performances from some of the festival’s youngest competitors as Whinhill Nursery Class and Gibshill Children’s Centre took part in a singing games class for nursery and pre-school groups.

Festival president Isabel Lind said: “There have been so many highlights.

“I’m always excited by the Burns and Scots performances.

“I think we take for granted the beautiful heritage we have and our wonderful Scots songs.

“We’ve had a very high standard, there have been a lot of 90-mark performances.

“It’s marvellous for the area to see the festival being so well supported, we punch way above our weight.

“One adjudicator couldn’t get over the number of volunteers and stewards we have here, he’s from Surrey and he says they only have eight people down there.

“I would say we have at least 40 and it’s a real military operation organising it.

“It’s very exciting to have that level of support.

“When you hear the Scots or Burns songs or you look out on our area, we live in the most beautiful part of the world and sometimes we take for granted what we’ve got.

“We’ve got this wonderful rich history of the arts in Inverclyde.”

Mrs Lind told the Telegraph that the quality of the performances had helped to build excitement for the closing concert, which is taking place at the Town Hall tomorrow evening from 6pm.

She said: “I think it’ll be an excellent concert, there’s no two doubts about that.

“Excitement is very much building for the final celebration and our awards ceremony.

“It’s something that develops as the festival goes on as we choose people to perform in it, it’s always evolving.

“The festival is my favourite part of the year, it’s a top priority and I’m very proud of it and everyone involved.”
